Digital Pheromones

There are a lot of people fiddling with the ideas of Digital Pheromones as a quick Google demonstrates but the meaning I'm aiming for is that, like ants navigating a mazes and/or searching for food, potential simple agents can produce a self-organising system as long as a trace of their passage is recorded - see:

Ant Colony IT

In relation to the Serendipitous Web these agents are actually web users and their Digital Pheromones are being anonymously monitored, collated and analysed (pos. without their being aware of the process) by Serendipitous Web Tools. It is hoped that, if enough people implement such tools, that it should be possible to create a series of interconnceting webs which make it easier for people to track a problem (or person or picture of a yak or....) down and/or a way of searching that presents potential solutions to your search problem and connected ones.

Essentially the Digital Pheromones act as a way of 'training' this Neural (Inter)Net in much the same way as Artificial Intelligence trains their Neural Nets.
